Description |
This offset lithograph reproduction of a linocut is one of twenty prints that form the portfolio "Viva Zapata! 20 grabados" a special edition produced on the centennial celebration of Emiliano Zapata's birth. A larger-than-life image of Zapata forms a background, with aristocratic Porfiristas in the middle-ground trampling the prostrate body of a peasant. The indigenous male underfoot nevertheless holds aloft a flaming torch, tearing through the landscape. A zapatista body hangs suspended and hoisted aloft by a military male in the upper right quadrant of image. |
