Description |
This offset lithographic reproduction of a linocut is one of twenty prints pertaining to the "1972 año de Juárez: 20 grabados" portfolio. Image depicts the ornate carriage of Emperor Maximilian and Carlota, installed rulers of Mexico during the French Intervention of 1964-67, being pelted by a barrage of pro-Juarista pamphlets. The horse-drawn carriage, driven by Napoleon III and surmounted by a cleric, is effectively halted by a large door buttressed by two young men. The banner "Viva Juárez" is pasted upon the inside of the door. |
