Mr. Woodward's grandson, David, identifies the party (L-R) as Grant Combs with his arms around wife Ella McGuffey (Ninnettia's daughter by a previous marriage), Wayne Woodward, J. C. Woodward with his arms around wife Ninnettia, Thomas McKay, and Herby Woodward or Frank Combs.On the day the photograph was taken, J. C. Woodward wrote in his diary ""HERBY'S [his 8 year old son] BIRTHDAY. Hinman and McKay [the newly elected treasurer & secretary of the Woodward Mining Company] went out to take pictures. I went up on the mine with them. Took 6 views of mine and one view of ranch. All came back to town.""J. C. Woodward also owned a house in Silver City, on the corner of 13th and Bennett Streets, living in town so his 9 children could attend school.The area is known as Bald Mountain Mining District.
