Miss Manville had been the principal of the Normal School, and upon the resignation of Mr. Byron Reed in 1918, Miss Manville was voted unanimously to the position of Superintendent of Silver City Public Schools.The first woman standing (left) was tentatively identified as Ada Gray Merchant; she, however, is listed, in Helen Calkins' book, The Public Schools of Silver City (1929), as a teacher during the 1918-1919 school year, not 1919-1920. The names of the teachers listed in the book for that academic year, but not identified in the photograph are: Alice Morse; Maude Stratton; Grace Baldwin; Ina Marriott; Josephine Dawson; Blanche Moore; Caroline Fishback; Mabel Davis.
