The Benton House and the restaurant building were torn down sometime between 1895 and 1898, probably due to flood damage (a storm flume was located just east of these buildings as early as 1883). The two-storey brick building remained standing, and in April, 1898, Mrs. Metzger opened it as the Columbia Lodging House. It was torn down in 1915 and replaced by the Bullard Hotel.
