Description	In October of 1966, Tijerina's group took over part of the Echo Amphitheater in the Carson National Forest, which had been part of the San Joaquín del Río de Chama land grant. Their cars can be seen here. They declared themseves to be the Republic of San Joaquín del Río de Chama, and even elected officials. When rangers tried to get them to leave, the rangers were held and tried by the newly elected officials before they were released. The area was occupied for 5 days by over 300 people.
