Description	Produced for the quincentennial of Christopher Columbus’ arrival to the Americas, this serigraph print presents pro-indigenous, anti-Spanish/European imagery of a contemporary version of a pre-Columbian deity making an obscene gesture with his right hand. Dr. Ray Hernádez of UNM explains that the image is a composite of different Mexica and Nahua glyphs. He states: "The shell-like motif on the left is actually a speech scroll representing the warrior figure’s utterance—probably a war cry. In his right hand he seems to be holding what is a reference to atlachinolli (Nahuatl for ‘conquest!’); the two elements of that form are a tlachinoya (torch or fire) above the hand and atl (water) beneath it, which combined signify the act of conquest. This form is normally in the shape of a speech scroll where it signifies the imperative to conquer. Never is it an actual object or weapon. Thus, this is a loose decontextualized interpretation. The face appears to resemble the beaked mask form of the wind divinity, Ehecatl, who is also associated with Quetzalcoatl, although I do not note any direct iconographic references to the latter. The elaborate headdress, probably of Teotihaucano derivation (quetzal feathers) is the very generic kind worn by priests and/or ruling elites among Teotihuacanos and Aztecs."
