English translation of an explanation to this poem found under index number 506: "This décima to the Holy Virgin was composed by the late Joaquín Chávez in view of the fact that when Galisteo was founded, the indians frequently attacked the town and in order that the Holy Virgin help the townspeople , well then, Mr. Chávez wrote this composition in honor of the Holy Virigin and he called her Tanita from Galisteo instead of calling her Holy Virgen [!] and therefore this indita was composed for this purpose." |
