J.D.R. note: "The transcriptions of 344 to 368 were made from recordings which I was permitted to make at the Gallup Indian Ceremonial at Gallup, New Mexico in 1946. The recordings are poor as they were made out doors and there is much audience noise. The transcriptions were made by my assistant Daniel Birns in 1979.... I instructed him to attempt to realize phontically [sic] the sounds sung by the Indian dancers and choruses. Some of these may be in Indian dialects but many are meaningless syllables." |
